March
Rob has now finished work on his new album Trick of the Light which is due for release mid-year.

Rob has recently been filling in both as Paul McCartney (mostly) and as John Lennon (occasionally) in the Australian Beatles' Tribute band, The Beatnix.

October
Release of Let All Creation Sing, a CD of Christian congregational songs produced by Rob Smith, Michelle Goldsworthy, Ashley Reeder & Adrian Hannan. The CD contains three of Rob's songs: "Out of my distress", "We cry", "Abba" and "This is the victory".
May/June
Release of the long awaited new CD by The Innocents, Pop Factory, in the US, Japan and Australia. Pop Factory was engineered & mixed by Rob and contains two of his songs: "Burning an illusion" and "Out of my hands".
The Innocents tour internationally, performing at the IPO in Liverpool, the ??? in Hamburg and the Red Cloth & UFO Club in Tokyo. Rob also performed solo at the Red Cloth (see Gallery for picture).
April
Release of Get Ready, a CD of Christian kids songs, produced by Rob Smith & Philip Percival, containing two of Rob's songs: "Everyday's a good day" and "Get Ready"

Release of See Him Coming - Emu Live 2, a CD of Christian congregational songs containing two of Rob's songs: "Not by Might" and "Live for the Kingdom"

May:
Better World Tomorrow is released in Japan on the Wizzard in Vinyl label.
July:
The Innocents finished their new album - tentatively titled Unfinished Business.
September:
Rob flies to Tokyo to do a promotional concert at the UFO Club.
November: Rob and The Affections begin work on a recording project to be finished 2005.

March:
The Innocents release their double CD anthology, No Hit Wonders from Down Under through Zip Records in the US.
The Innocents feature at the second Lost Weekend Pop Festival in Sydney.
May:
Rob's new album, titled Better World Tomorrow, is finished.
December:
Whilst on leave in the UK, Rob performed two shows with his good friend James Cooper in London - one at The Hope and Anchor in Islington, the other at The 12 Bar Club in Soho.

Feb:
The Innocents appear live on Good Morning Australia, and perform an acoustic version of "Sooner or Later".
April:
Rob begins work on a new solo album.
October:
The Innocents release their double CD anthology, No Hit Wonders from Down Under through Zip Records in Australia.
The Innocents stage a promotional concert at Wrest Point Casino, Hobart.

2001
March:
After a six month battle with leukemia, Rob's dearly loved father, Bruce Leslie Smith, dies aged 68.
September:
Rob's close friend and musical colleague, Ted Mulry, dies of cancer. This brings to an end nearly 9 years of performing with Ted Mulry and friends.
Rob is invited to conduct Ted's funeral, at St Andrew's Cathedral in Sydney on September 10.
The next day, the fateful 9/11, Rob & Nicky Chiswell fly to Melbourne to begin the recording of No Other Name.
October:
The Innocents perform live ABC radio.
The Innocents feature at the first Lost Weekend Pop Festival in Sydney.
The Innocents begin work on a new album.
December:
No Other Name is released through EMU Music.

2000
July:
The Innocents head off to Los Angeles to perform at the International Pop Overthrow Festival (alongside The Rubinoos) and make a number of other appearances.
December:
"Small Town Boy" is released. Thanks to a glowing review by David Bash, it is picked up by a number of distribution labels and radio stations around the world.
